Postcards from the Past, 2020
Oh sweet, sweet childhood… How do we revisit such a memorable place? Postcards from the Past are postcards that illustrate unforgettable 2000s references while entangling the fears of adulthood. The postcards serve as a timestamp of the past but also a moment of reflection in the present.
The objective for this project was to search for a phrase, quote, or sentence online or in different forms of print and then to transform it into a new idea that differs from the media it originally started as. I stumbled across an Interview Magazine article “We Brought The Teletubbies Together Again For No Real Reason Other Than Joy.” I wanted to create an ode to nostalgia, childhood and the raw imagination that lived within us before we were conditioned into the ways of adulthood. My main goal was to invoke emotions of nostalgia, stress and humor of the perfect little world we were once living in V.S. the horrors of adulthood.
I gathered ideas + themes that came to mind after reading the Interview headline. The challenge I set for myself was to create a project representing childhood as a time capsule that exists in both the past and present.
